One of the most pressing challenges facing most leaders is how do I get everything I need to do done without working excessive hours.clock

I can recall when I was in a leadership roles.  There were plenty of meetings to attend, calls on my time and demands for input not to mention multiple deadlines.

I might have had a vague idea about what efforts helped further organisational goals.  On the other hand did I really know what efforts yielded the biggest return? Probably not.

How about you?

So you might wonder why this is so important.  There are several reasons:

  1. There is an absolute limit on the time you have available
  2. You can’t buy an upgrade on the amount of time you have
  3. No one is going to sit down and tell you what efforts are going to yield the biggest gain – you have to figure this out.
  4. Ultimately your success is determined by the results and outcomes that you deliver.
  5. The results you deliver are influenced by the plans you make and execute.

So if you don’t know what efforts actually further organisational goals, take a bit of time to stop, reflect and consider this question.

It might just be the thing that significantly changes the value you deliver.
