Hi it's Duncan Brodie here from Goals and Achievements.
In this week's video, I want to talk about the importance of you being really well prepared for the first formal interview. You see the first formal interview is when it really starts to get serious.
The chances are there will be five or six individuals who have been shortlisted and invited to interview. And in this first formal interview, what you really need to be ready for is a pretty rigorous and potentially challenging job interview.
What that means in practical terms is you need to know about the organisation, you need to know about the sector in which the organisation works, and you need to know what it is that attracts you to the particular job that you are being interviewed for.
You need to be able to handle technical questions that test your knowledge or experience.
You've got to be able to answer questions about your management and leadership capability.
You've got to be able to demonstrate that you have the right interpersonal skills or right business skills the right digital skills to a great job.
You've also got to demonstrate your potential to come in, do a great job and really make a contribution to the team and the organisation.
And to do that, what you've really got to do is be really, really well-prepared.
Sadly the vast majority of accountants and professional people, in my experience, just don't do enough preparation.
To give yourself a fighting chance in that first formal interview, you want to be looking at 10 hours of preparation as an absolute minimum and use that time really effectively so that you're go in ready to perform your best in the job interview and really give yourself the best chance of getting through to the second and hopefully final stage of the process.
