As a highly competent and well qualified professional there is plenty of scope for you to achieve great results in your career.
At the same time you may well be unconsciously putting barriers in the way to moving forward in your career.
Barrier 1: Not Willing To Invest The Time
Whether you like it or not working on your career requires a significant investment of time. You have to take the time to determine what you want, what you have to offer, to write your CV, practice for interviews and so much more.
Barrier 2: Doubt
Surprising as it might seem, even amongst highly talented people there is often a huge element of doubt in their abilities, what they can offer and contribute.
While self awareness is helpful, excessive self criticism or judgement just tends to keep you stuck.
Barrier 3: Waiting For The Right Time
Most jobs have a job description and person specification. When people look at these documents they often eliminate themselves because they cannot meet all of the requirements. If you are waiting for the right time it will never arrive. See the areas that you have not cracked as development opportunities.
Barrier 4: Playing It Safe
If you are staying in your comfort zone and doing what you always did, you are never going to grow and develop. Be willing to step out of your comfort zone and take balanced risks.
Barrier 5: Not Investing In The Help You Need
The more senior you become the more important. Sometimes having your own personal mentor or coach can make all of the difference.
In reality there are always going to be challenges in moving forward in your career. At the same time the more you take control of your career the more likely you are to make progress.
